En Gaspésie sur la route des phares, mai-juin 2016 In Gaspésie on the lighthouse route, May-June 2016
C'est avec nos amis Louise et Sylvain (du voilier Tribull), que nous avons entrepris ce tour de la Gaspésie printannier dans le sens contraire des aiguilles d'une montre. Nous avons également voulu souligner l'apport des phares à la sécurité maritime dans les temps anciens. Nous nous sommes donc arrêtés à chacun d'entre eux. It's with our friends Louise and Sylvain (S/V Tribull) that we embarked on this spring counter clockwise trip to the Gaspésie Peninsula. We also wanted to highlight the contribution of lighthouses to maritime security in ancient times. So we made a stop at each of them.
La première nuitée se fera chez Benoit, le frère de Lise, à Trois-Pistoles, où nous avons soupé en compagnie de Benoit et Suzanne. The first night we slept at Lise's brother's house in Trois-Pistoles, where we had a nice dinner with Benoit and Suzanne.
À Mont-Joli, nous avons photographié ce berger avec son chien et ses moutons sur la pelouse du Motel Mont-Joli. La particularité c'est qu'ils sont faits de béton. In Mont-Joli, we took this picture of a shepherd with his dog and sheep on the lawn of Mont-Joli Motel. The particularity is that they are made of concrete.	Petit arrêt au Parc des Berges à Val Brillant.  Il faisait pas très chaud. Short stop at the Parc des Berges in Val Brillant. It was quite chilly.
Gribou prend la pose au Pont Heppel à Causapscal.  Gribou strikes a pose at the Pont Heppel in Causapscal.	Ce pont couvert a été construit en 1909 par la famille Heppell et sa longueur est d'environ 40 mètres. This covered bridge was built in 1909 by the Heppell family and its length is about 40 meters.
Le pont couvert de Routhierville a été construit en 1931. Il chevauche la rivière Matapédia. Il possède deux travées et est le plus long pont couvert au Bas-Saint-Laurent avec 78 mètres de long. The Routhierville covered bridge was built in 1931. It overlaps the Matapedia River. It has two spans and is the longest covered bridge in the Bas-Saint-Laurent with 78 meters in length.	Au début de la colonisation, la population utilisait un bateau-passeur pour traverser la rivière Matapédia. La construction de ce pont, dont l’instigateur fut Alphonse Routhier, était un pas en avant pour le développement de la communauté de Routhierville. Il était (et est toujours) le seul pont existant dans le secteur qui permet de traverser la rivière. At the beginning of settlement, the population used a ferry to cross the Matapedia River. The construction of this bridge, initiated by Alphonse Routhier, was a step forward for the development of the Routhierville community. It was (and still is) the only existing bridge in the area that crosses the river.

C'est ici que nous dormirons ce soir.  Après un bon souper dans le campeur de nos amis. It's here that we shall sleep tonight. After a nice dinner in our friends' camper.
Un arrêt au port de Carleton nous fait voir de beaux bateaux. A stop at the port of Carleton shows us beautiful boats.
Le nom de celui-ci me fait tout de suite penser à Tintin. Je me demande si le Karaboudjan fut une inspiration pour ce pêcheur ? The name of this one made me instantly think of Tintin.  I wonder if the Karaboudjan was an inspiration for this fisherman?	Les voiliers côtoient les bateaux de pêche. The sailboats rub shoulders with fishing boats.
Marc en admiration devant un Fisher, c'est une marque de voiliers dont on adore le style. Marc is looking at a Fisher, it's a brand of sailboats which we love the style.

Le phare en restauration à l'été 2016. Il est situé sur le site d'un village gaspésien d'héritage britannique établi en 1903.  The lighthouse in restoration in the summer of 2016. It is located on the site of a Gaspesian British heritage village established in 1903.	La charpente en pièce sur pièce de la maison Duthie, datant de 1835. The Duthie House, post-and-plank construction, dating from 1835.
Le grenier Cochrane, construit vers 1855. The  Cochrane granary, built around 1855.
La famille Duthie, d'origine écossaise, a construit dès 1775 une taverne au village. The Duthie family, of Scottish origin, built a tavern in the village as early as 1775.

Et pour souper, on se régale de turbot frais dans notre campeur porté! And for dinner, a feast of fresh turbot in our truck-camper!
Le jour suivant nous visitons le Parc du Bourg de Pabos, nous rappelant le passé de ce village. Pabos est une adaptation du terme Micmac « Pabok » qui signifie « eaux tranquilles ». Sous le régime français, Pabos est le plus important établissement de pêcheurs permanents de la côte gaspésienne. Plusieurs de nos ancêtres s’y installent et fondent des familles qui sont à l’origine du peuplement de la Gaspésie. Malheureusement, la Guerre de la Conquête met brusquement fin aux activités commerciales du Bourg. Pabos, comme tous les autres villages du golfe Saint-Laurent, est brûlé par les troupes anglaises en 1758. Cent vingt-cinq ans après la destruction du poste français, la compagnie « King Brothers » installe une scierie à vapeur sur le site. The next day we visit the "Parc du Bourg de Pabos" reminiscent of what happened to the Village of Pabos. Pabos is an adaptation of the Micmac term "Pabok" which means "quiet waters". Under the French regime, Pabos is the most important permanent fishing establishment on the Gaspé coast. Several of our ancestors settled there and founded families that were responsible for the settlement of the whole Gaspé Peninsula. Unfortunately, the War of the Conquest abruptly ended the commercial activities of the Village. Pabos, like all the other villages of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, was burnt by the English troops in 1758. One hundred and twenty-five years after the destruction of the French post,  the "King Brothers"company installed a steam sawmill on the site.

Quelques Eiders à duvet se reposent sur les rochers. À droite, un autre oiseau... un peu plus incongru. Some Common Eiders rest on the rocks. On the right, another bird ... a bit more incongruous.
